Thirty million Americans live with a diagnosed cognitive, developmental, or executive-function condition that makes ordinary tasks — reading a sign, following a multi-step instruction, confirming change at a register — genuinely hard. Millions more manage the after-effects of brain injury, aging, or trauma. The tools built for them are either clinical and stigmatizing, or generic consumer AI that was never designed with them in mind.
Cloud assistants weren't built for this audience
Alexa, Siri, and ChatGPT are built for general convenience — not for someone who needs a patient, repeatable, always-available second mind for the parts of daily life that don't come easily.

DANI was not designed for a hypothetical user persona. She was built for the founder's own teenage son, who lives with a diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder and needs daily support with communication, navigation, and routine. He has used DANI prototypes for roughly eighteen months — longer than most consumer AI products spend in beta — under real conditions, with no script and no demo day. What began as one father's engineering project for his son has become a working system with a clear, measurable purpose and a path to help millions of people like him.

That restraint is deliberate. DANI does not alter neurology. What she does is close the functional gap between what a person can do unaided and what they can do with a patient, always-available second mind — on navigation, communication, task sequencing, and transactional accuracy.

01 Local-first, not cloud-first
DANI runs on-device and on local compute — a clustered array of AMD Ryzen AI 395 processors — rather than routing every query to a remote data center. She keeps working when a connection drops, and she keeps the user's most sensitive moments — location, finances, routines — off any server entirely.
02 Voice-first, not screen-first
No menus, no reading, no literacy, motor-skill, or sustained-attention demands that screen-based tools impose on exactly the population least able to meet them.
03 Wearable, not app-bound
DANI lives on smart glasses so she perceives the same physical world the user is standing in, rather than an abstracted phone screen requiring the user to look down and away from the actual moment.
04 Powered by an energy stack the founder controls
DANI's local compute clusters are run day to day on power from The Florida Sun, a solar-generation operation the founder also built — one part of a broader clean-energy and compute ecosystem that gives DANI a cost and resilience advantage most AI startups renting cloud GPUs don't have.

Damian Wells built DANI for his son. Everything else is infrastructure.
Damian Wells is a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Bosnia and Iraq and lives with a service-connected hearing disability of his own. He is an MBA candidate at the University of West Florida, and he founded DANI Ai out of necessity rather than opportunity: his teenage son lives with a diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder and needs consistent daily support with communication, navigation, and routine. Damian built DANI's earliest prototypes to be that support system — and his son has used them for roughly eighteen months, giving DANI something almost no early-stage AI product has: eighteen months of real-world evidence from a real user, gathered before a single slide deck existed.
That same hands-on instinct shows up in how he's built the company around DANI. Rather than renting cloud infrastructure like most AI startups, Damian also built the power source that runs DANI's compute clusters himself, through a solar-generation operation he founded and operates in Gainesville, Florida. It's the same pattern across his ventures: identify a real, personal problem, then build the infrastructure to solve it end to end instead of assembling it from vendors.
